A close up of Clovera, the Dollzone (doll-zone.com) 1/3 ball-jointed doll (BJD) |
My first big purchase involving Alice and, quite possibly, what started my increasing addiction. With quite a sum of money I had fallen into at the time, I knew that I wanted to buy the expensive and popular ball-jointed doll. I've gone to an anime convention (nerd, yes) and saw them there, at which point I fell in love.
Months of research took place and finally I found myself falling for the 1/3 doll at a height of 58cm. It came in a beautiful box -- I bought from www.doll-zone.com -- and inside she lied in all her glory, the clothes surrounding her in their own individual bags. The original eyes (18mm) were a light gray, but I opted for rainbow because, well, they're prettier.
Clovera cost $599 without shipping/tax and the face makeup. She came with her face, outfit (separate: $84), wig (separate: $20), eyes (separate: $16), Shoes (separate: $23). The face makeup was an additional $50.
With the heeled shoes, the doll does not stand up as nicely and I would have hoped. Actually, I can't make it stand up on its own at all. It did come with another pair of hands and arched feet to switch out. All the original parts (besides the eyes) are still on the doll and I've had it two years without any damage thus far.
For the amount of money, I do wish sometimes that I spent it on something more practical, but I still am glad that I finally achieved my dream of owning a BJD.
Here are some additional pictures (will add more later when I have time for a photoshoot):
Her hands look quite large in the photo, but they aren't so bad in real life. Just not a good perspective. |
Her lips are a nice red and she does remind me a lot of Alice. |
